Running with the Chocolate Labs

Well the sun is finally out after a rainy and overcast weekend. Still got 3 good days of running in as I continue to get my base established after a very long break away from running.

Friday and Saturday were shorted rain runs, but they felt good regardless of the weather.
Sunday, Nancy and I took the 2 chocolates over the State Forest. Jack went with me running and Belle stayed with Mom walking. When the boys caught Mom on the trail, Belle deserted Mom and came with us. Except for the occasional times that Jack would cut in front of me, I am absolutely amazed how well the two of them did. Later we caught up with Nancy again and walked the last half mile in.

You got to love the mindset of a dog with its owners:
~ Loving the people they are with,
~ Loving what they are doing and
~ Not worrying about what comes next.

We could all definitely learn a lesson there.

Ok enough with the rain already

Well the rain started last night, didn't get home til late - damn DirectTV box at work wouldn't load - but that's another story.  Got home to get one quick run in, actually felt pretty good, and then another quick one this morning, both on the roads.  Can only imagine how wet the trails must be.  Ran into a fellow Trail Runner at LL Bean today who gave me the low-down on a few other trails around Southeastern MA and RI.  Definately have to get my base up.

Hopefully the rain ends tonite, and can take Jack (my choc lab) back to Foxboro tomorrow morning.  Stay dry New England.

Friday rants

Blew off last night, decided to take my son out for his first post-driver's permit drive with Dad instead.  He did remarkably well.
Actually bought some Virbram KSO's (pic below).  Very cool, though my little toe wasn't too fond of it to start.  Time will tell I guess, not sure if I will actually run with them.  If interested here is the website http://www.vibramfivefingers.com/products/index.cfm tough to find them but you can get them at CitySports in Boston, the website also has a store locator too.  http://www.citysports.com/citysports/
Well busy weekend planned, and hope to get back into the trails this weekend.  Found a great website http://www.coolrunning.com/ for race listings if anyone is interested (interested hell if anyone is reading this blog except for me LOL.

Barred Owl Sighting

One of the coolest things that has happened to me running happened yesterday while I was out on the trail at Gilbert State Forest in Foxboro, MA.  I turned this corner and heard this "whmp, whmp, whmp" sound and looked up to see this huge owl in front of me taking off and going up into a tree.
Now I generally hate to stop but I just had to stop and check this big guy out.  It was SOOOOO cool.
Sights like that will definately keep your head up while training, and you dont see too much stuff like that running on the roads.

First time

Wow - my first blog! Somewhere there are trumpet's blaring and rose pedals being thrown from the balcony - but then again - probably not.
Well this is just going to be some blabbing, probably some whining here and there and just talking about running, race plans, and some life stuff thrown in.
Hope I dont bore you all too much.
Be well
